Many of our alumnae are active in the music world. Epsom Music provides students with excellent learning experiences, superb resources, skilled staff and wonderful performance opportunities.
Experienced and highly-qualified teachers give tuition in musical instruments and singing in a variety of styles. All string, woodwind (including saxophone) and brass instruments are taught, along with percussion (including orchestral percussion and drum kit), and classical and contemporary singing. Students are put into a rotating lesson timetable that ensures that they are not always missing the same classes.
A levy is requested from each student to cover photocopying and costs associated with the upkeep of resources and facilities. The itinerant lesson system is not intended to cater for advanced students, or students wanting individual tuition. Piano lessons are available by private arrangement. The school has a limited number of instruments for hire. Instruments are allocated according to individual need and in the first instance preference is given to students taking music as an option. Full details are available at the beginning of the school year.
For many students thinking about taking lessons in one of the instruments we offer, they may not be familiar with some of the names – particular for orchestral instruments like French Horn, Oboe or Orchestral Percussion. If you would like to see some more info on these instruments and more, as well as demonstrations by professionals, the Philharmonia website has these and more. You can find these here.
Students who are new to EGGS will have the opportunity to sign up for music lessons when they arrive at the School in the New Year. Current students will have the opportunity to do so in the coming weeks.
All enquiries should be directed to the Music staff music@eggs.school.nz
