On Wednesday morning, the school community extended a very warm welcome to our new cohort of Year 9 students and a new group of staff for the 2024 academic year, including Epsom Girls Grammar School’s 12th Principal, Mrs Brenda McNaughton.
Along with new students, whānau and staff, Mrs McNaughton (nee Fa’alogo) was called into the Marjory Adams Hall with karanga and stunning waiata from the Kapa Haka rōpu. At the conclusion of the ceremony, facilitated by Kaumatua Richard Nahi, Mrs McNaughton was enveloped in Korowai and presented with a Kava Bowl and ‘Ulu fala from the School Board.
Along with staff and students, the School Board wish to acknowledge Avondale College for handing over their taonga. Our longest serving Headmistress Marjory Adams, the namesake of our school hall, came to Epsom Girls Grammar School from Avondale College in 1953. She contributed to the tradition of our founding Headmistress, of providing our girls with an excellent education that values highly industry (hard work) and good conduct (strong character).
Welcome to our new students, whānau and staff and we look forward to a promising chapter in the history of our Kura.
